Crouched in the Snow - Pen by Aridax Crouched in the Snow - Pen by Aridax
Finally, after weeks of effort and dotting and some extra sprucing up today, I can upload the stipple project that was assigned to us in Studio Art. We were asked to find an image and enlarge it onto a piece of 12"x18" paper using the gridding method and drawing using only dots (although I kind of cheated by using short lines in some places).

I also cheated a little by using Faber Castell art pens instead of an ultra thin sharpie like everyone else did, but there was no requirement about the pen so it should be okay. =P

The original image :iconflame-of-the-phoenix: and can be found here: [link] . The image was used with permission.

---Edit---
Scanned and added the lower bit of the image with the snow and stuff. ;P

Also: SMALL VIEW PLEASE! It looks so much better as a thumb. :lmao:

Whoa. Using the stippling technique for fur is ambitious indeed. I love it.

The tiger looks so tranquil as well. Lovely piece.

WHOAHWHOAH MOTHER OF DETAILS!
How in cosmos did you muster up the patience to do this? Same thing with the dragon drawing, my goodness, the amount of details is blowing me away.

Now for the dumbest question you've ever heard: Did you by any chance count the dots? Like, keep track of the average amounts of dots per minute etc?

I think I tried to estimate it at some point (since it was drawn on a grid at first), but alas that number has been forgotten in the 7 years that followed. (sorry!)

Stunning :)
There's something unique about in and dotted artwork and you've done an amazing job here!
The eyes, fur, whiskers, superbly done.
Haven't done stuff like this since the 90's :)

Haha I didn't actually design this--the original photo is in the description and the stippling was an assigned homework. XD

Oh....my fault I read the description about that you could only use pen points to complete the work but I obviously read it too quick lol....well either way it's still excellent work and he's now in my tiger tiger folder with all the other wonderful tigers =D

It's probably the noise and grainy texture that makes it look better small but apart from that it's a brilliant picture, it deserves a :+fav: :)

Holy cow, how long did this take you?
I never did have the patience level for stippling an entire piece.

It's really well done. I love the contrast levels all throughout.

I can't stand doing this form of art. So... many... dots. >_> So I congratulate you on your patience and how wonderful you were able to make this. It has actually been a bright spot in my day.

Yeah, I'm so glad I didn't choose a larger sheet of paper for this project! That would be like some new form of torture! :lmao:

But still! 12"x18"?! And on top of that, it's hard to make certain textures such as fur look good with dots. You're right that would be torture. Either way, awesome job! :worship:

Bah, you're flattering me again.

I'm going a little off on a tangent, but I completely walked into the difficulty trap. My friend had done a stipple portrait before me, and warned not to do one with too much hair. Of course, I then chose a tiger. :lmao:
